Car reveal & showroom launch production in the UAE
How to light, stage and time the moment the cover comes off, and what a reveal typically costs.
Short answerA car reveal is a ten-second event wrapped in a 90-minute programme. In the UAE, typical production budgets run from AED 20,000–60,000 for a reveal inside a showroom to AED 90,000–250,000 for a large outdoor or ballroom launch with LED and laser, all excluding 5% VAT. What decides the result is how the vehicle is lit, how the cover or curtain moves, and whether the cue is rehearsed with the real vehicle.
We are EchoLight, an Abu Dhabi production company working across the UAE. This guide is for brand managers, dealership teams and agencies planning a vehicle unveil, and it covers what to decide, in what order, and which mistakes cost the most. Figures are typical ranges for illustration, not quotes. Our wider product launch production page covers the general case.
01 / THE PROBLEMWhy a car is hard to light
A vehicle is a mirror. Glossy paint, glass and chrome reflect every fixture, screen and exit sign in the room. A light that looks excellent on a stage can turn into a hot, distracting streak across a bonnet. Good vehicle lighting is mostly about angle: soft, wide sources placed high and to the sides, with a few controlled accents to draw out the body lines.
Black and white cars behave very differently from silver or deep colours, so the colour of the vehicle being revealed matters to the lighting plan. Ask for the exact colour and finish early. It changes where the fixtures go, and it is far cheaper to know that in week one than on the day of load-in. For fixture types and what each does, see our guide to moving heads: beam, wash and spot.
02 / THE CUEDesigning the unveil moment
Cover or curtain
The classic. A cover pulled by hand or by rope is simple and reliable. It needs a clear path, a rehearsed pull and a light state that holds the room in darkness until the exact moment. The risk is snagging, so the cover and the vehicle's mirrors and spoilers should be tested together.
LED reveal
Here the vehicle is hidden behind or beneath screen content, and the picture cuts to reveal it. It suits ballrooms and hotels where fabric is awkward, and it lets the film do the storytelling before the cut. Screen size and pixel pitch drive the cost, which is covered in our LED screen cost and LED screen rental pages.
Light-only reveal
The vehicle sits in blackout and is brought up with a timed sequence of beams and washes. No fabric, no moving parts. It is the least risky mechanically and works well inside showrooms where floor space is tight.
Laser and sparks
Used as a punctuation mark, never as the main act. A laser sweep or a short burst of cold sparks at the moment of the unveil adds scale outdoors or in a tall venue. Approvals and venue rules apply, so raise it early. See laser show cost for ranges.
03 / THE BUDGETTypical budgets by launch format
Illustrative ranges for one reveal event including crew and installation, in AED excluding 5% VAT. Venue, vehicle transport, catering, entertainment and permits are separate.
| Format | Typical range | What usually drives it |
|---|---|---|
| Showroom reveal | AED 20,000–60,000 | Rig height, floor protection, sound, one LED or projection element |
| Hotel or ballroom launch | AED 45,000–150,000 | Stage, LED backdrop, guest count, programme length |
| Outdoor or large-scale reveal | AED 90,000–250,000 | LED size, laser, rigging, power, weather cover |
For how these fit into a wider event budget, see AV production costs.
Rehearse with the real vehicle, not a stand-in. Reflections, door clearances and the exact stop position only show up with the actual car on the actual platform. In our experience this one rehearsal removes most of the surprises on the day.
04 / THE ORDERA typical production sequence
- Brief and vehicle details. Colour, finish, dimensions, number of vehicles and whether the car runs under its own power.
- Venue survey. Ceiling height, power, floor load, access for the vehicle, and any restrictions on rigging.
- Concept and cue list. The unveil, the build-up and the follow-on moments, with timings agreed with the brand team.
- Content. Launch film, logos and countdown graphics approved and delivered early enough to be tested on the real screen.
- Load-in and focus. Lighting is focused on the vehicle in position, with the cover or curtain fitted.
- Full rehearsal. The cue is run from the real control desk, timecoded where possible, including a backup path.
If the programme also includes speeches and guest arrival, the ideas in how many lights an event needs help size the rest of the room.
05 / THE MISTAKESWhat goes wrong most often
Reflections are the first. A beautifully lit car can still look wrong if a bright fixture mirrors in the windscreen, so test from where the cameras and the guests will stand. The second is vehicle access: a car that cannot reach the platform, or a floor that cannot take its weight, stops a launch before it starts. The third is silence. A reveal with great light and weak sound loses the room, so budget for audio that gives the moment a physical hit.
The fourth is the single point of failure. If one cue triggers everything and it fails, the whole moment fails. A manual fallback that the crew has practised costs very little. If you are comparing screens and projection for the backdrop, our 3D mapping vs LED screens guide may help. International guests or press attending? 06 / FAQFrequently asked questions
How much does a car reveal event cost in the UAE?
As a typical range, a showroom reveal might run AED 20,000–60,000 and a large outdoor launch AED 90,000–250,000, excluding 5% VAT. Venue, vehicle transport and catering are separate. A real quote needs the venue, guest count and the type of reveal you want.
How early should we start planning a showroom launch?
Four to six weeks is a comfortable window for most reveals, and longer for large outdoor launches. That gives time for a venue survey, content approval and a full rehearsal. Shorter timelines are possible, but options for equipment and design are usually narrower.
Do we need an LED screen for a car reveal?
No. A light-only reveal or a classic cover can work very well. LED helps when you want a launch film, a countdown or a cut-to-reveal moment. The right choice depends on venue size, budget and the story the brand wants to tell.
Can the vehicle be revealed during the day, in a bright showroom?
Yes, but contrast is harder. Showrooms with large glass areas may need blackout treatment or a reveal staged after sunset. We usually look at the lighting conditions during a site visit and suggest what is realistic for the time and place.
Does EchoLight work outside Abu Dhabi?
Yes. We are based in Abu Dhabi and produce events across the UAE, including Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah. Send the venue and date on WhatsApp and we will reply with the questions that matter and a typical budget range.
